LEGACY
Established in 1842 at the Xiadu Daxing Distillery in Fuzhou, Fujian, today’s Fukien Old Wine Group is a time honored brand that has made its way into most households of the Fujian Province. In 1982, it was named “The Number One Wine Factory” of Fuzhou.
HISTORY
Huangjiu (黃酒), also known as Chinese Yellow Wine, is one of the oldest wines in the world together with beer and wine. With over 2,500 years’ history, it originated in China and is fermented from cereal grains such as rice, glutinous millet or millet. Yellow wine's nutritional value exceeds that of beer and wine, which is also why it is known as “liquid cake” in ancient China.
Signature
Made with premium glutinous rice, a traditional fermentation starter of 60+ precious Chinese medicines, with a unique red yeast rice found only in Fujian province called “Gutian Red Yeast” — Fukien Old Wine is fermented and aged under low temperature for an extended period of time, crowning in nutrition and medicinal value while cultivating its signature color, aroma and flavor.
DESIGN
Inspired by Hokkien architecture, the bottle mimics the curvature of the culture’s swallowtail roof (燕尾脊), with Hokkien’s signature colours of dark red, green and light blue. The bottle cap is also printed with the “Gushan” brand label on top and “Fukien Old Wine” on the side.
Culture
A household favourite among the Hakka culture, FKOW is made for everyday cooking in every generation, specifically for office workers, preganant women, children and the elderly.
Future
